Infinitely more light-hearted than "The Jungle" (that book leaving me images that have stayed with me to this day) including passages that I really enjoyed such as "Claire tried to give him a smile, but the best she could do was to lend him one" , "Which is worse, not to tip when a tip has been expected; or to tip, when the tip is an insult?" and "He did not talk much, normally, but when he thought things ought to be done, he was as annoying as a machine-gun test in the lot next to a Quaker meeting." Unless you'd rather seek this out as part of a collection I'd say this is a great buy in and of itself and a very enjoyable read!

Free Air 9781517393601 Books Reviews

Loved the characters and how easy it was to I imagine the differences in the lives they had up to their meeting. It took me back to a time without interstate highways!
This refers to the GENERAL BOOKS edition. This is completely unedited. Words are missing spaces between them in some instances, numeric codes show up in the middle of sentences and "|" vertical lines are everywhere in the text. A twelve dollar book should be edited. There are a number of other problems, but they all result from what is obviously a text file printed as-is.
This was a fun, interesting story. A social commentary juxtaposing rich/poor, simplicity/social expectation, unaffected/phony. The writing style was incredible - every sentence interesting.
What a great picture he painted of the times and the country - and it was nice to read a good "turn of a phrase" now and then - words for their own sake.

Loved it.
This is an early effort by Lewis; it's a rather simple story, well written, but gives no real indication of the books that he would one day write that would impact America.
Very nice pleasant story and well written.
I enjoy reading Sinclair Lewis. I liked Free Air, but was disappointed in the ending. I envisioned a more complex story once the characters were fleshed out in the early parts of the book, still it was an enjoyable read with lively characters. It gave what I thought was a good flavor for the early 1900's in America - both the physical and the social aspects, but it is certainly not a "deep" read. I would say more of a casual read. Reccomendation - The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, Jr. One of the best books I ever read.
