Poser Sue Wyshynski Books
I read a lot of "young adult" books because I have a young adult at home. I loved this book. My daughter, who is NOT a surfer, looked at me like I was insane when I brought this book home for her. Since I'm used to her looking at me like that I said nothing and began to read Poser. She took it from me later that night and announced that she wasn't going to like it! Well, she couldn't put it down. She finished it two days later and is still asking me if I think there will be a sequel. I sure hope so! Excellent book for both teens and their parents. I read it once and I'm actually reading it again. Smart, funny, positive message, and well written. Well done Ms. Wyshynski.Tags : Amazon.com: Poser (9780802720948): Sue Wyshynski: Books,Sue Wyshynski,Poser,Walker Childrens,0802720943,Social Themes - Friendship,Social Themes - General,Honesty;Fiction.,Interpersonal relations;Fiction.,Surfing;Fiction.,Children's Books - Young Adult Fiction,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),Fiction,Honesty,Interpersonal relations,Juvenile Fiction Sports & Recreation Water Sports,Social Issues - Bullying,Social Problems (General) (Young Adult),Social Themes Bullying,Sports & Recreation - Water Sports,Surfing,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,Young Adult Fiction Social Themes Friendship,Young Adult Fiction Social Themes General (see also headings under Family),Young Adult Fiction Sports & Recreation Water Sports
Poser Sue Wyshynski Books Reviews
Poser was a really great read! It was fun to see how Tallulah was going to get out of the traps that she made for herself. Katie was a great character as well. I loved her individuality! The Author's descriptions were great! I felt like I was on the beach with the characters watching what was happening. I could see this book being made into a movie.
Poser is the perfect read for any young teen looking for a way to escape into another world. Great characters with a smart sense of style . Tallulah is a great character, a perfect fish out of water. The author really knows about the ocean and surfing and really describes the experience in detail. You feel like you're right there surfing with them. Who wouldn't wanna go on a surfing adventure?
Great read. Thank you.
This book is "Mean Girls" meets Gidget! Although Poser is a surfing novel written for, and about, a young adult audience, ocean lovers of all ages will enjoy this entertaining and delightful story. Tallulah Jones is the insecure new girl in school who lies about being able to surf, only to have her lie exposed in a very public and painful way, which earns her the title "Poser." Tallulah decides to really learn to surf in order to repair her reputation, and along the way, learns to love surfing. Meanwhile, she must deal with the mean clique of girls at school, navigate her way through her new school, and work through typical teen angst. The author is an experienced surfer, and her knowledge of surfing emerges in the story, giving tips and insights to beginning surfers. Ocean lovers will enjoy the evocative wording, as the author's descriptions of the blue water, foamy waves, tangled seaweed, and salty air bring the ocean to life in written form. Tallulah may be the main character, but the ocean itself plays a central supporting role. Truly delightful!
New to California, Tallulah Jones gets noticed her first day of school by the popular crowd because she is wearing surfer clothes. They unfortunately, however, also assume that she knows how to surf.
Tallulah lies and ends up having a dangerous fall while surfing with them. Hurt by her lies and the fact that she ruins the most popular girl's brother's expensive new surfboard, she gets labeled as a poser. When her father's work brings her into contact with a social outcast surfer girl, Tallulah invokes the girl's help to teach her how to surf, so she can shed her new "poser" status.
The girls in school are making her life unbearable, and the boy whose surfboard she broke is being overprotective about her surfing. Will Tallulah find a way to shed her "poser" status and show the guy she likes that she really can surf?
POSER is a funny and interesting book. Although the girls in her school seem overly mean and the characters lack some dimension, the story is a quick read and enjoyable. Readers who like realistic fiction, surfing, and romance will enjoy reading this book.

This is one of the funniest books I've ever read. I keep it on my shelf so I can re-read it when I want a pick-me-up. I can't wait to see what Sue Wyshynski writes next!
Talullah is very easy to identify with. She tries too hard to fit in, geeks out but redeems herself as a character. This book made me laugh and gave me away to feel like I was out surfing even though I havent been able to lately.
I *adored* this book! (And, no, I'm not exactly a teen!!) The writing style is so fresh and funny, the descriptions so vivid, and Tallulah's various ups and downs portrayed with such insight and so sympathetically, that I was just drawn right into her world ... and didn't want to leave!
More on Tallulah's adventures, please!!
